3D FOREGROUND / 2D BACKGROUND
In this illustration, using a clip from the popular Disney animated film - Shrek the Third, look at both the Foreground (Shrek, Donkey, Puss in Boots, and the foliage directly around them... You'll notice things moving.
However, in the background there is no movement... No leaves fluttering, No branches balancing on the breeze...NOTHING. That's because the background is a matted painting and the 3D foreground is laid in over it.
If Disney or Pixar could produce the background in 3D, as EDQ can, the cost to either one of them would be prohibitive.

The clip below was created for EDQ's animated film - Huggins. It was designed to show 1) the quality of the animation, and 2) how a 3D foreground works with a 3D background.
You'll notice that while there is movement in the foreground, the background is also moving. Birds fly, leaves sway in the wind, etc.
EDQ is able to produce this type of quality due to the company's patent software technology.
Although the costs in time and money are greater when incorporating a 3D background with a 3D foreground, the overall costs to EDQ are still a fraction of the costs needed by the major studios to produce an animated film that does not use a 3D background.
Once again, the comparison amounts to tens of millions of dollars.
